We had such a lovely night at the Test Match pub in West Bridgford! We started with a quick sing through of the six selected songs (‘Frankie’ – Sister Sledge ‘Chain Reaction’ – Diana Ross ‘Counting Stars’ – One Republic ‘Don’t you worry child’ – Swedish House Mafia ‘Help’ – The Beatles and ‘Don’t stop believing’ – The Journey.

We had a quick introduction session just to break the ice (Later in the evening I had to break the ice to get into my car!!) Some of us knew each other, some of us not. Some people had come from the West Bridgford Liberty Singers, others from different choirs. People bought friends, some colleagues  – but for one night only, we were the Pop Up Liberty Singers!

It’s amazing the sound you can get from a small number of people. I’m always pleasantly surprised. We thought about the harmony parts and how to create these. The songs I chose weren’t complicated – the harmony parts only stretching to two. I wanted to create an evening which was achievable for everyone, not something that felt like we left it unfinished. We sang and we laughed, and we laughed and we sang. We created some lovely sounds and I hope some happy memories.

I truly believe that singing with other people brings a sense of joy which too often passes us by. Thing the time to connect with people, to sing with them, to understand together the meaning of songs and hear harmonies within them has a precious value which is well worth pursuing. And here is a recording of us from last night!

Thank you to all who attended last night! Our next meet up is again at the Test Match pub on Wednesday 27th February  from 7.30-9.00pm. Again, tickets are on sale through Eventbrite.
